Pot

So, Guv Chris Christie goes on a tirade about Colorado’s pot legalization. Seems like he should be concerned about New Jersey. Colorado consistently is one of the top States in quality of life. Where does NJ rate? People move to Colorado whereas people flee from NJ. Colorado has an honest governor … no comparison there. When I think of NJ I think just the opposite of Colorado and think of beautiful mountains and laid back people that enjoy living here. Christie should visit Colorado and see firsthand what a better State Colorado is!

In the news … there is a study that shows pot smoking can cause heart attacks. DUH! You ingest smoke, like you do in cigarette smoking, and thus can have the health problems associated with cigarettes. It doesn’t take a study costing many $$$$ to figure that out. I would venture a guess that pot smoking causes less health problems than cigarette smoking simple because you smoke way less pot than cigarettes.

Earth Day

I’m hoping that there will be many, many more Earth Days to come. With fracking, oil spills, pollution, etc, Mother Earth needs a break!

Do you wonder why we are such a materialistic society? It seems we get more and more because our relatives get more, our neighbors get more, or we just want more to have more. I’m somewhat guilty of that because I have too many electronic devices … Windows 8 computer, Macbook Pro, iPad 3, iPad Air, iPad mini, Nook color, and a couple of Kindles. I don’t need but one iPad and the Mac but I won’t get rid of the rest.

But, I hang out laundry instead of using the dryer, even in the winter! In Colorado we have an abundance of sunshine even in the winter months, and even 70F days in December. Besides, the clothes smell so much better after a dose of sunshine.

Easter

Hope everyone had a nice Easter. We went to Blackhawk for the day and enjoyed a great buffet along with some fun gambling. I was a bit surprised at how many people were there by the time we left. We got up there early morning and left early evening. The weather was great, in the 50’s, and the machines were paying off.

Along with 4-20 being Easter, it was also the annual 4-20 celebration. This year there were as many as 60,000 people (depending on what news station you watched) and there were only 130 arrests and 18 hospitalizations. There were many exhibitors showing their post wares and an award for the best pot … awarded to a Denver pot grower. Also, there are now more pot shops in Denver than there are Starbucks.

Cats

Cats are a very amazing creature and each have their own special characteristics. There are 5 cats living in my house and keeping us entertained. We bought 2 cats from a private party and did so because they were beautifully marked and were sisters. The other 3 cats were from the Cat Care Society in Denver and were brothers. Instead of coming up with cutesy names, that none of us could agree on, we named them by their coats …

Marble, one of the sisters, had coat that looked like marble

Stripe, the other sister, had a striped coat

Black, Grey, and Orange, the brothers, were named for the color of their coats

Marble is the smallest and weighs about 5 pounds and Black is the heaviest at about 18 pounds, with the others in-between and the boys weighing the most. The sisters hang out together as do the brothers. There is a definite division of the sexes when it comes to napping or sleeping. However, when they play it is every cat involved.

The cats are very social too. Whenever anyone comes to the door the cats want to know who they are, what they smell like, and if they are coming to play. Which brings me to to a show called, “My Cat From Hell.” It is a great show dealing with cats that have big problems. The host, Jackson Galaxy, goes to the ‘bad cat house’ and trains the cat and their adult keepers. Jackson is not the ‘normal’ person and you have to watch the show to see what I mean. It is on Animal Planet and also available on Netflix. If you are familiar with Cesar the Dog Whisperer and like his show (I do), then you’ll also like My Cat From Hell.

Consequences

Teens were ‘messing around’ at a drinking water reservoir in Portland, Oregon. One of the teens pissed in the reservoir and the city had to flush 38 MILLION gallons of water … That’s one huge flush! Anyway, there were cameras that caught the teens and the one that decided to piss in the water was arrested. I’m not sure what will happen but I hope this teen has to pay restitution for the water that was lost … yeah, like that’s going to happen.

What is with people doing stupid, hurtful, costly, etc, acts? Many things are done and then put on Youtube and they get millions of views. TV stations put these things on their newscasts too. It doesn’t even matter if these acts are breaking the law. I, for one, think that society is on a downward spiral. When I was a kid, in the 50’s, if I did some of what kids do now, my dad would have tanned my hide and the cops might have too. Nowadays many parents are even encouraging their children to come up with these stupid, senseless acts.

In today’s world it is all about outrageous acts being caught on camera and people watching them on various social sites. The more outrageous the more ‘airtime’ they get.

And, don’t even get me started on the supposedly (stupid) baby videos …

Language

Ok, why is it when you call a major business you hear, “Press 1 for English?” The majority of Americans speak English, so why should I have to Press 1? Why can’t the people that can’t/won’t speak english press something? It just doesn’t make sense to me. If you live in the United States you should SPEAK and UNDERSTAND ENGLISH! If you want to speak Spanish (or any other language), speak it at home or when you are out with your like speaking friends. There are many avenues available for non-English speaking people to learn English. The United States spends MILLIONS of dollars to print things in English and Spanish. Think of the money that could be saved by not having to do so.

The last time I was in Mexico I didn’t see signs in English (granted, it has been many years since I’ve been there), and when I was in Vietnam there weren’t signs in English. I either learned rudimentary words or lots of sign language to get what I wanted.

Cloudy

Sunday it snowed 5.5 inches and by Monday evening it was almost gone. Today is cloudy but warm enough to melt the rest of the snow. BUT, more snow is predicted for tomorrow. We’ve only had about 40 inches of snow this season and I doubt we’ll be close to the 78 inches we had last season.

The seeds I planted a week ago are all doing well, some more than others. The pumpkins and gourds are 2-3 inches tall, as are the zucchini and cantaloupe. The rest are doing well too … okra, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. It will be another 4-5 weeks before it will be warm enough at night to plant them in the garden.

The orange tree and lemon tree are starting to set fruit and aren’t dropping blossoms like they did last year.

Some of the houseplants have been moved from the greenhouse into the house. The cats LOVE the plants but are starting to leave them alone. It is somewhat difficult to keep all 5 cats from eating leaves.

I’m going to make an effort to keep this blog up better than I did before … and hope you enjoy it.
