Adopt!

June is the American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Cat Month

As most of you know I LOVE cats! My first cat was a Siamese back in 1971 and was bought from someone/store, can’t remember for sure. His name was Zeus and was a great cat for his 20 years of life.

Tiger was a blk/brn ticked Tabby I found in an automotive garage where I was working on my car. She was a greasy mess but I brought her home and she lived to 19 years.

Yoshi, another Siamese, was adopted from Maxfund, a no-kill shelter in Denver.

Simba, a MLH orange Tabby and Philo, a SH orange Tabby came later. Philo had a problem with his tail so it was bobbed and he looked like a Manx.

Rajah came from my daughter and was one of my favorites. Another plain Tabby, he would jump up in my arms and lay on his back like a baby when I watched TV. He developed an issue that could not be controlled with drugs so he had to be put down. Yes, I cried like a baby when he went and did so with Zeus and Tiger too.

Coco was another Siamese from the shelter and she developed a personality problem and became scared of the other cats. She went back to the shelter.

After my divorce, Yoshi, Simba, and Philo stayed with my ex-wife and I missed them very much.

I remarried and bought 2 short hair Tabbys from a private party … Stripe and Marble, named for their markings. They are small cats and are VERY loving. A few months later we adopted 3 kittens from the Cat Care Society. These kittens came from Oklahoma and had been at the shelter for a short time before we adopted them. Black is a black LH, Orange is an orange LH and Grey is a grey LH. Much easier to name cats like that then figuring out dumb/weird names.

All the cats that have lived with me have been great because of their personalities and idiosyncrasies. Yes, I’ve had dogs in the past (4 of them) but, IMHO, cats are a much better.

So, go to your shelter if you are thinking of getting a cat. Even if you aren’t, you can go to a shelter and give them the love they deserve.
